Funk, roots, rock and world grooves

Jimmi Carr Band bring their infectious funk, roots, rock and world grooves back to Lazybones for the first time since last year's highly succesful album launch.

Jimmi is a singer-songwriter and electronic music producer local to the Blue Mountains. He has released 7 albums, including the just released Flight Cycle.

The new album, which forms part of his recently submitted PhD, also incorporates influences from Western Africa and South Africa.

Jimmi’s catalogue has received extensive airplay, including his recent single “Free Right Now” on Triple J. His releases have been featured as album of the week on a number ABC regional stations and have had regular airplay on Community radio all over the country including FBI in Sydney, Triple Z in Brisbane and PBS in Melbourne.

Here’s what critics have said about Jimmi:

“Clever songs, quirky arrangements, Carr’s genius is to is to meld diverse elements into something quite unique.” – Rhythms Magazine (2020)

“[Free Right Now] brought a real smile to my face and made my morning as I put this on repeat. The way this song saunters along is fantastic. Rhythmically so exciting and fun the whole thing comes together so masterfully. Bravo!” – 4.5 stars. – Nkechi Anele, Triple J’s Roots ‘n’ All (2019)

“Jimmi Carr is the real deal. He plays hard, sings with intensity and writes with passion. Give him a listen, you’ll wonder why it’s taken you so long.” – FBI Radio

Supporting Jimmi Carr Band on the night is Tap Hammer and Ben Connor, who is launching his new album, 'Stone Fields'.

Tap Hammer is a punk/alt rock 3 piece band from the Blue Mountains, NSW. Its members, Reyhn (guitar/vocals), Sam (bass/vocals) and Holly (drums) formed the band in January 2023. Since then, they have written a set of original songs ranging from thrashy punk inspired by bands such as X and Black Flag to a more metal/alt rock sound inspired by bands like Kyuss, Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden. The band's music focuses on celebrating the good in life while also expressing issues within their communities and society as a whole.

Soul-driven blues, folk, rock singer-songwriter Ben Connor has been described as the musical love child of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and David Gray. With more than two decades of writing and performing behind him, Ben’s warm, well-worn vocal cords ride soothing catchy melodies, sharing tales of love lost, love found, mythological journeys and harsh political realities. Always in pursuit of the perfect song, Ben has honed his song writing craft, with one reviewer stating, “Ben Connor has a mastery of song craft and a truly unique style and approach that could someday propel him to a place of prominence in the singer-songwriter pantheon”.

Ben performs solo, with his band and with his duo Ben Connor & The Butterman.

For this special Sydney album launch gig, he will perform a paired back solo version of 'Stone Fields' from beginning to end.'
